Imani: A lot of classic science fiction is very nationalistic. i want us to hold on to anderson's point that nations are imaginary, but they're also really real,. And so, you know, when we think about things like john carter and tarzan, they reflect a different side of nationalism which is that you build these imaginary relationships with people by creating an other. This other is generally somewhere in a nation that was colonized by one of those modern nation states. Remember, tarzan is in africa. John carter is on a mars.
