The Government's Recommendation to the Committee on Inquests

Bereaved families at all inguests where the state is represented or involved are publicly funded for their legal representation. In theory this should help ensure more bereaved families can meaningfully participate in the inquest process. A tiny proportion of families have access to legal representation as solicitors are willing to take inguests on a conditional fee agreement basis. It's interesting that there is pushback against these challenges in a context where it is so difficult for families to access legal aid funding, says Emma Lopod UK.
