Hans-Rös von Balthasar was a favorite theologian of Pope John Paul II. His theology is Christological and oriented around the idea that only way to truly understand existence, reality, humanity itself is to look at and gaze at Christ. There has to be holiness in the church for the church to call herself holy, he says.
