Privateering in the Napoleonic Wars
There was a long tradition of privateering in France, especially in Samalot. Many Corsairs who fought in the Napoleonic Wars had fathers, uncles, cousins, or grandfathers who had done the same during the American War of Independence and Seven Years' War. Wearing could be lucrative, but it also came with enormous risks. On top of all the usual hazards of the sea, they often found themselves tangling with the Royal Navy.
