The Importance of Meaning in a Foreign Language
"I watched this Chinese guy and it was clear to me that these people knew he couldn't speak English, so they had no common language. And I wasn't in good conscious let that happen," she says. "So I went over and I thought, I'm pretty sure that if I speak a bit of Mandarin, he's going to understand me." The most important thing is to be understood when you're speaking foreign languages - not perfect form or meaning.
