The idea of being enslaved to forces which control you is actually quite a significant theme in this particular novel. And how are we supposed to feel towards eustace? Ecause, as you say, are we meant to blame his parents? We meant to feel sorry for him? We mean to dislike him? It feels like there's lots of different things going on. Well, i have to say, part of me feels sorry for eustace, andpart of me feels, well, you deserved that. But than, i think, would be a very censorious judgment. I think what lewis wants do is say, oh, dear. Maybe he deserved it, but surely
