History has pasically never seen a king who reigned over a large territory replaced by a representative government. The concern that it would nev work was actually something james madison had to explicitly address in federalist number ten. Once the americans showed that it could actually work, that's when you get the europeans back in the old country thinking that maybe they could get away with ditching their kings too.
