The Rise and Fall of Netscape Navigator

Netscape Navigator was designed to be fast, even working under the constraints of a 14.4 KB modem. Netscape's own internal measures said that Navigator could load a web page 10 times faster than Mosaic. The browser also shipped with SSL encryption and server authentication. It made safe e-commerce possible on the web for the first time.
