During the cold war, switzerland was under an american lead embargo on exports to china. The united states put a lot of pressure onSwitzerland to join the embargo. But they eventually entered into a gentleman's agreement that allowed them to sell certain goods in Switzerland and then ship them to china legally. It also helped create networks of embargo goods sdealer who were able to travel from all over europe for trade with chinese diplomats.
