In yuknow, in the middle ages, there would have een at least a lot of concern about the continuation of a particular cultural or orethnic group and insuring that it wasn't wiped out by by other groups. And then looking back even further, we're both australians, and imagine were familiar with the idea that indigenous australians before our europeans arrived had long term perspective on preserving their land. But perhaps that's an idealized impression of what nded in is australians thought, and on a dedity basis, there that concerns were more more prosaic.
