Ruby has influences from small talk and Pearl and Bash. You can write functional Ruby, but does it make sense to introduce a pure pipeline? I think Ractors have the opportunity to be a very impactful feature at introducing actual parallel processing for languages that historically only allowed single threaded programming. But if you want concurrent, like proper parallelism, you're going to have to fork or spin up multiple instances of the Ruby VM.
