Why Is the Neocortex in Conflict With the Social Patterns?

In an experiment, four people are tied to the tracks and a train is heading towards them. If you pull a lever on one track, it will only save three lives - but if you take out the lever, there's just one person left who can be killed. The decision-making systems of different parts of the brain compete over what they believe is the moral outcome. It means that rational decision making is in competition with a biological or a or olymbic system which is to never harm somebody as you have empathy for them.
