Schopenhauer saw pity as a useful virtue because it makes life questionable. Jesus is this unique individual who truly felt the sting of the world so deeply that he completely denied it. The kingdom of heaven is a state of the heart, not something which exists beyond the earth or comes to you after death. Death is not a bridge, not a means of access. It is absent because it belongs to quite a different and merely apparent world. For jesus set far above all his followers in setting crises apart from his followers.
