The Challenge of Transforming Brazil's Economy
Marco Scasteren is chief economist for Latin America and Oxford Economics. Brazil has a relatively young population with the majority of its citizens in the 20-40 year old range. Inflation peaked at 12.1% in April of 2022, which led to a significant monetary tightening cycle that brought interest rates to 13.75%. The country's largest exports are soybeans, iron ore, petroleum oil, sugar cane and meat.
