How to Mute People on Instagram

Instagram has a new mute feature but it doesn't seem to work yet. It simply hides your updates from appearing on that user's feed. But this doesn't stop someone from coming in and leaving comments all over your stuff. I want the power more to not have to see idiots commenting because although they're around as many as there are other social media, you do start to get idiots leaving comments. That is what works so well with Twitter.
