Is There a US Military Presence in the Philippines?
China and the Philippines have overlapping claims as well as Malaysia, Vietnam, Brunei, and Taiwan. The US has rejected formally most of China's claims to the waters but they haven't side sided with anybody else again. They're just really there to be against China. And part of this effort is that they sell US warships within 12 nautical miles of Chinese controlled islands in the South China Sea.
