John: I think shared user defaults in an app group should be a valid use case. Developers that have more than one app often want to share small bits of information among the suite of applications so they can interoperate. So my apps know about each other. And if you run both of them so they don't fight with each other, they synergize to cooperate and provide the behavior that you want.
