This is from the chapter epiphany. Sunday boys. My toft in croft in homeland has obliged me to drive other roads to church. Recess at my old elementary middle school has become a tepid, corralled affair. If we catch a crowd at light and a boy comes to the window with a squeege in his hand, i decline the windshield wash and press dollars and coins into his palm. Critics of the screegy boys, a venerable occupations since the 19 eighties, have long remained hypocritically silent. But i admire the greedy boys hustling and working together inside their age group. They are at least momentarily declining the vigorous exploitation of the drug corners.
