The Long-Term Consequences of Poor Early Reading Instruction
Struggling readers often have problems just understanding what those little mysterious words say and we need to teach kids how to read them. I'm really interested in the long-term consequences when kids don't get off to a good start in reading they fall behind in other subject areas, which can lead to all kinds of like depression and anxiety. There's good evidence to show that struggling to learn to read is a cause of ending up in the juvenile justice system and then the adult prison population.
