Carbon is the most friendly molecule in the universe, because it teams up with other atoms and forms long chains. It does this far better than any other element in the universe. So if you're going to have very interesting carbon-based molecules in these circumstellar discs that perhaps might survive to get onto the surfaces of very young planets - you really have to find CH3+.
