Bridging Instruction: How to Bridge From Invention to Truth
Bridging instruction is a way of teaching students to use knowledge they already have. It involves eliciting from them their invented strategy and then telling them that it's not correct. The teacher creates an emotional shock by saying, "I am now going to tell you the correct way of doing this" This technique has been used in England schools for years but only recently started being widely adopted across the UK.
