Jeffrey Young: We're just not even aware what we're saying to ourselves or why it is that we're reacting so strongly. But by taking some of these very behavioral in-session approaches of having people kind of take a step back, like literally take a look and wonder together with you the therapist about what it is that's happening inside your head. It really does give some good perspective, some useful perspective. Your perspective completely narrows down when we are very much in a highly emotional state. So this is our way to change between a self-in-process, as the act people call it, the contextual self  by taking this standing up position.
