Colonialism in Latin America

Settler colonialism was not about taking land from the indigenous people and replacing them with Europeans. The original colonial task in Latin America was one of resource extraction not outright extermination and replacement. In North America settlers developed a complex ideology of racial purity and separateness which insisted that coexistence with the indigenous peoples wasn't possible extermination became the only solution. A new American identity was born and defined by this ruthless capitalist expansion and colonialist expansion.
