The Pleasure of Pity and Fear
Susan Fagan has suggested that the pleasure is actually pleasure in our response of pity. We are pleased that we're the sort of person who's sympathetic to that type of event, she says. So it may explain why we take pleasure in pity, but what about fear? Malcolm Bud: Even if some tragedies don't produce this kind of pleasure, there are better reasons to value the overall experience of the thing than the pleasure we get from it.
