The teaching of verses one and two here could be related to the household codes that we find in ces like ephesians chapter five and six. In contrast to those other places, this is not a more comprehensive teaching about masters and servants but only deals with how slaves need to treat their masters. First timothy mentioned two groups of persons who needed to be accorded honor, the widows and the elders. Chapter six begins with a third group, masters need to be honored by their bond servants.
