Britain's Attempt to Deter Migrants From Crossing the Channel
Rishi Sunak says he wants to rethink the whole idea of asylum. He has introduced a law called the illegal migration bill. It would prevent anyone who entered Britain via boats crossing the channel from claiming asylum in Britain. Instead the idea is they would be detained and deported. This is intended as a measure that would deter other people from crossing the channel. But it's not clear how long it would take for that deterrent to kick in.
