The Fed's Failure to Run the Labor Market Hot

We had two generational shocks, a pandemic and a land war in Europe. That doesn't happen very often. But they were also a stress test on the Federal Reserve's monetary framework and the Fed failed. The fiscal authority maintained income well beyond what the Fed thought. There was a big sectoral shift then away from what you couldn't buy services into goods. Goods inflation went up into double digits. Something that had been pulling inflation down for 20 years was now pulling it up.
