The age of consent then was 13 in France, 12 in the US and in Tahiti, girls as young as 13 were routinely getting married. I'm sure it would have been thought dubious at that time, our morality and our standards have changed over time. So that makes a difference to the larger issue of how we judge the morality of an artist if we're transferring into the past a sort of legal system which didn't exist at the time.
