SFPD Officer George's Killing

On November 13th 1967 San Francisco police officer Herman George is murdered making him the first black officer killed in the line of duty. Four months after shooting a young man in a robbery attempt just a few months after getting shot himself by his lover's other lover he was suspected of being killed by members of the black panthers because of his involvement in the film war and hunters point riots. This leads to the formation of officers for justice a new union created specifically for minority officers. In 1973 there were fewer than 150 minority officers making up less than nine percent of the total police force and about a third of them now form and or join officers for justice. One white officer did join Richard Hong Hong
