I think modernity began with the collapse of what you might call the hierarchical world of late medieval period. We're not quite as adrift as maybe Mark saw, but nor are we as solid as the pre industrials, maybe felt. And I guess liquidity is kind of liminal because it's not gaseous. So it hasn't we haven't melted into air.
