Lee Stewardson and Margaret Trimble had been looking forward to Christmas. Their daughter Laura had been diagnosed with a brain tumour at the age of five. Most experts would advise against saving up for Christmas with a company like Fairpack. If your bank goes bankrupt, you get your money back from a government-backed compensation scheme. But that didn't apply to people who paid money to Fairpack. It wasn't clear how much Fairpack's customers would get. Maybe 50p for every pound they'd saved, maybe just 5p. One thing was clear, there was no way they'd get that money in time for Christmas.
