The Lord Visits the Iniquity of Fathers
The key issue is the word visiting. What does that mean? Because it could be understood a variety of different ways. It could be understood to have god say, you know what, because you did that, youre kids i'm going to do this to them,. and i'm going in do this tothem down to the third and fourth generation. However, there are other places in the scripture where it says, a man has to be punished for his own sins, not his sons. And a son has to be punishment for his own Sins and not his father's either god's contradicting himself or we're not understanding the word visiting very well.
