The Battle of Sitting Bulls in 1864

Some Lakota decided that launching an uprising was preferable to starving quietly. So violence erupted as they went on a rampage killing settlers throughout Minnesota, and trying to get their lands back. The US government dispatched the army under Brigadier General Sibley and Salih to go after them. By the time most of the Lakota's were defeated, the uprising ended with the biggest legal mass execution in US history. Some 38 Lakota warriors were hanged at the end of the uprising.
