The History of the German Air Force
First World War saw air combat become an irreversibly important part of warfare. Pilots were seen almost like medieval knights going off into dangerous blistering combat against other pilots, bringing home glory and honor as they joustered in the skies. But here's something really, really interesting about the planes flown during the First World War that might surprise you. Believe it or not, most of the planes flown in the First World war were made of wood, wood and cloth. They were making a plane out of metal at this point in history. Steel and iron were way too heavy to get into the air. You might as well try to make them out of rock.
