He ran as the conservative party candidate for the house of commons in the same riding district that his father had represented in the eighties and nineties. Within the same year, he was appointed to be a cabinet minister in the harper government. In spring of 20 16, after the fifth, after the 20 fifteent federal election, berner put in his bid to be the new elected conservative party leader. So i'm going to briefly explain how canadian elections work. You don't vote for a prime minister. You vote for a party within your specific
