The CBI said it was first made aware of an allegation regarding Mr. Danker's workplace conduct involving a female employee in January. It said it had investigated this thoroughly at the time and dealt with it comprehensively. To be mortified is to be a step more than embarrassed, much more of a serious feeling than being embarrassed. Apologize sincerely or I sincerely apologize would probably be a more widespread way to say that. Deal with is almost something that I use on an absolute daily basis - essential in terms of business English.
