The Importance of Probability in Reasoning

If Sean and his collaborator scheme works out about the formation of baby universes making low entropy initial states more likely, that's fantastic. I'm Kirk standing on the surface of the planet by purely a priori reasoning to some assignment of probabilities. That's quite different. Just as if somebody discovers something more fundamental than the Schrodinger equation or more fundamental than general relativity from which either or both of those can be derived, that's going to be a fantastic advance in our understanding. And it might be a fundamental law of nature that the initial probability distribution is such and such.
