The Importance of Deeper Forms of Social Democracy

Black people in the 1950s and 60s, especially in major cities, they're the first ones to feel the dislocations and shocks of demobilization from World War II. The Great Society helped expand the black middle class; it also helps reduce black poverty through a variety of different measures. But we need deeper forms of social democracy that will address the structural problem of unemployment for millions of African Americans.
