Xerxes and the New Age of the Empire

Xerxes inherited the throne from his dad three years earlier as the book of Esther opens. Xerxes seemed to really favor Susa, which was a prominent city from the now defunct ancient empire of Islam. The other reason that we seem to be having this party is that Darius, his dad, got his butt handed to him by the Greeks at the Battle of Marathon.
