The Rock Is Christ

During a protestant bible study, we made it to matthew ten discussing peter as the rock. One person tried to use acts four 11 to say that jesus was talking about himself. I believe i was able to defend the faith, but i'm curious on how you would approach it. We got to be careful here for a metaphor being used in one context to always be applied in another. It just doesn't make a lot of sense to me.
