It's actually a much more difficult task, I think, to cross-examine than to direct your witness. You have no idea what's going to come out of the mouth of the person sitting on the stand. And for the most part, they're going to be antagonistic to you because their job is to pick apart what they said. To know what Crystal had said, the exact wording from the previous statement was very important in this case.
