A lot of the current research doesn't replicate so not only is publishing completely broken but also most of the research is just false like it doesn't replicate. We've seen this with Alzheimer's where now the government probably spent like 50 billion on this order of magnitude of research based on hypothesis and research that proved out to be literally fraudulent. So ultimately having cryptographic signs that specific artifacts for example that sometimes are tempered with are cryptographically proven a bit like if you take a photo with a camera that does a cryptographic proof that it's not like a deep fake but that it's actually a real photo.
