In the 19 eighties, as i was following events in the soviet union, i said, well, to the extent that there's an end of history, it's going to look like liberal democracy tied to a market economy. And if look around the world right now, there are competing systems that are not liberal or democratic.
There are a lot of barriers to changing your mind: ego, overconfidence, inertia — and cost. Politicians who flip-flop get mocked; family and friends who cross tribal borders are shunned. But shouldn’t we be encouraging people to change their minds? And how can we get better at it ourselves?
