He basiclywrote a highly convention bound, high structured, narrative driven form. He had no interest in enduring literary value. So he takes the jew of malta and turns it in a merchant o venice id. Very few original plots, right? And so there's this working of trying to do something great within a form that's recognizable. But i think it's recognizable because it's pleasingly archetypal.
