I Don't Like Esotericism

Brian copenhaven says he finds the word esotericism unhelpful as an analytic device. The word has to have two pieces in it: secrecy and hiddenness, he adds. He also thinks that for many people who read these texts, one a distinction they fiercely want to hold on to is the distinction between religion and magic.
