The Evolution of Mutations
Biochemists who started comparing protein sequences in the late 50s and then through the 60s, they pretty much immediately began to talk like mutationists. And that really dominating the way we thought about standing genetic variation for a very long time. Then there were these studies, like I don't know if you're familiar with this study by Felicity Jones on Stickleback that showed repeated parallel adaptation to fresh water from standing variation. But the allele responsible for that occurred in the population at a very, very low frequency. And it was probably maladaptive or deleterious. It seemed like then the pendulum swung again towards thinking more about standing variation again.
