In reach is a self-contained unit that you can get the Earth made app on your phone. And if you're willing to pay the service you can text back and forth and still just communicate. An SOS button doesn't even send a message to like your buddies it only sends it to SARS. So they've come a long way and I would say if people take the time to play around with them and learn how to use them. They're helpful but if the battery dies right you're back to the same issue.
