The Most Famous Name for Ghostly Lights
In latin they've been known as the ignis fatus, or foolish fire. The most famous name of all comes from a legend about a man named william. He was apparently such a trouble maker that after he died, he was rejected by heaven and told to go try again. But this sort of bad behaviour did impress one person, the devil. So the lord of darkness gifted william with a lump of burning coal to keep him warm as he wandered the earth on cold nights. William, though, ever the naughty dead man, turned that coal into a torch, and ever since, he has used it to lure travellers off the road and into danger. You would know them
