A nanobot would be almost a molecular sized robot, a container of some sort of atomic medicine. The problem with the way we do chemotherapy and radiation is that it affects healthy cells as well as cancerous cells. But if that smart nanobot could be injected into the body and only deploy when it recognized the cancerous cells that it needed to address, it doesn't impact other things. Think of it almost as a shell casing around the medicine delivery that doesn't open up until it gets there on a microscopic level.
