We All Have to Tighten Our Belts

Every five or 10 years there's some kind of economic crisis. We're in one at the moment, but I'm sure you'll be back in one 5 years later because it goes in cycles. If you have to metaphorically tighten your belt, it means now you've got to live more modestly. You might have to tighten your belt if you've lost a lot of weight. That's not accepted.
